Ad essere sotto accusa sono state le protesi mammarie prodotte dall’azienda PIP (Poly Implants Prothèses). Si tratta di protesi realizzate con silicone industriale, invece che con silicone di tipo medicale. Il silicone di cui queste protesi sono fatte sarebbe responsabile di un maggior rischio di rottura e addirittura di un possibile rischio di cancerogenicità.
I dati ufficiali ci dicono che le donne francesi portatrici di protesi PIP sono circa 30mila e che tutte sarebbero state invitate a presentarsi negli ospedali per la loro sostituzione. In Italia risulta che sarebbero state impiantate poco più di 4 mila di queste protesi.
Dopo lo scandalo delle Protesi per il seno PIP, prende il via una campagna istituzionale a livello europeo studiata con l’obiettivo di ”informare ed educare medici e pazienti sull’importanza della qualità quando si decide di sottoporsi a un trattamento di medicina estetica (ME).
Occasione per il lancio della campagna ”E’ una questione di qualità”, l’apertura del Congresso della Società Italiana di Medicina Estetica (SIME), a Roma. ”Se parliamo di medicina e chirurgia estetica non c’è convenienza a cercare il risparmio”, ha spiegato Umberto La Magna di Allergan, azienda impegnata nello sviluppo di propdotti di qualità per la medicina estetica e che ha ideato la campagna, ricordando come ”la vicenda delle protesi PIP abbia avuto un forte impatto per 450mila pazienti in tutta Europa. 122 milioni di lettori hanno letto notizie negative a proposito non solo delle protesi, ma in generale della medicina estetica e della chirurgia. Per non parlare del costo sociale dell’allarme generato nelle pazienti”. ”Noi – ha spiegato – come azienda che produce, dobbiamo impegnarci a realizzare prodotti della massima qualità, anche laddove la legge non ce lo impone”.
La Campagna, promossa in otto diversi Paesi europei, utilizza strumenti e risorse per informare medici e pazienti, fra cui 5 domande chiave che devono guidare il dialogo di questi ultimi coi medici (quali prodotti il medico usa e perche’, se il prodotto e’ stato ampiamente testato e sperimentato, perche’ si fida di questa azienda, se è soddisfatto dei risultati ottenuti…). Ottenendo risposte e delucidazioni, i pazienti potranno sentirsi più fiduciosi e sereni nello scegliere prodotti di migliore qualità.
