I tumori genitali maschili sono in aumento soprattutto tra i giovani, che dovrebbero iniziare a fare l’autopalpazione dei testicoli come le donne fanno quella del seno. Lo afferma la Società Italiana di Urologia Oncologica (Siuro), riunita a congresso da oggi a venerdì a Bologna.
Negli ultimi 30 anni c’è stato un aumento dei tumori dei testicoli di circa il 45%, mentre oggi la patologia è in crescita del 6% l’anno, soprattutto tra i 16 e i 24 anni, e ha raggiunto una frequenza di circa 3 casi per 100.000 persone: “I numeri sono piccoli ma la patologia e’ drammatica per i pazienti – spiega Giuseppe Martorana, Presidente Siuro – chi sa di aver mostrato alla nascita un testicolo che è sceso dopo il parto nello scroto, ma anche tutti gli altri, deve imparare a conoscere dimensioni e aspetto dei testicoli, esaminandoli almeno una volta al mese, con attenzione verso qualsiasi modifica dell’anatomia o della forma dello scroto”.
Durante l’evento si parlerà anche del tumore alla prostata: “Anche in questo caso il numero di casi aumenta, siamo ormai a 42 mila l’anno, ma la mortalità diminuisce, ed è una delle più basse al mondo – spiega Giario Conti, futuro presidente della società – Il problema forse è che trattiamo troppi tumori, ma stiamo cercando di risolverlo con la sorveglianza attiva, la cui sperimentazione ha già raggiunto le 300 unità: se scopriamo un tumore non lo trattiamo subito, ma ne osserviamo l’evoluzione per vedere se è fra quelli ‘silenti’, uno su quattro, che non hanno bisogno di terapie”.
Alla base della lotta ai tumori c’è sempre la multidisciplinarietà, conclude Martorana: “Prima di intervenire occorre definire il percorso attraverso l’interazione tra i vari specialisti – spiega – , individuando il ruolo di ciascuna terapia a seconda del paziente. Non si può avere una visione solo chirurgica o solo oncologica”.
