Potrà restituire il piacere e la dignità sessuale a milioni di donne: si tratta della chirurgia ricostruttiva dei genitali femminili mutilati, capace di ridurre il dolore e ripristinare un’attività sessuale normale secondo uno studio dell’Ospedale Edouard Herriot di Lione e dell’Università la Sorbonne a Parigi pubblicato su ‘Lancet’.
“La nostra ricerca – ha spiegato Pierre Folde’s dell’Ospedale Poissy Saint Germain che ha inventato la tecnica chirurgica – dimostra che la ricostruzione del clitoride è fattibile e aiuterà le donne mutilate a recuperare l’identità sessuale”.
La mutilazione prevede la parziale o totale rimozione degli organi genitali esterni della donna per tradizioni culturali o obsolete pratiche mediche, particolarmente diffusa in Africa, l’infibulazione è comune anche tra le comunità di immigrati in Europa e Nord America. La chirurgia ricostruttiva è disponibile in Francia già dal 2004 “ma – ha precisato Beatrice Cuzin dell’Edouard Herriot – raramente le donne mutilate possono accedere alla chirurgia ricostruttiva del clitoride nella maggioranza dei paesi sviluppati, dove resta proibitiva e inaccessibile”. I dati raccolti dalla ricerca francese mostrano che su 866 donne operate, un anno dopo l’intervento 821 hanno dichiarato di aver diminuito la sensazione di dolore correlata alla mutilazione e 815 di aver riottenuto il piacere sessuale.
