Le donne che fumano durante la gravidanza mettono a rischio la salute del proprio figlio. Ora una nuova ricerca rivela che anche i padri che erano fumatori al momento del concepimento possono trasmettere Dna danneggiato, aumentando il rischio per i figli di malattie tra cui il cancro.
I ricercatori dell’University of Bradford in Gran Bretagna hanno scoperto che dei marker di danni al Dna contenuto nello sperma o nel sangue del padre al tempo del concepimento si ritrovano anche nel Dna della prole.
“Tramite dei biomarker molto sensibili, siamo stati in grado di determinare il ruolo dell’esposizione al fumo nei padri prima, dopo e durante il concepimento. Esiste una correlazione evidente tra biomarker del danno da fumo nei padri e danni al Dna dei figli”, ha
spiegato Diana Anderson, autrice dello studio pubblicato sul Faseb Journal.
“Anche se questo studio – ha aggiunto – non ha trovato un diretto collegamento, sembra abbastanza che lo stile di vita del padre abbia una grande influenza sulla salute genetica del figlio”.
