Assumere quotidianamente le dosi massime consentite di supplementi di vitamina D può aiutare a prevenire fratture negli anziani. Lo studio è opera della Tufts University ed è stato pubblicato sul New England Journal of Medicine. Gli scienziati hanno scoperto che l’assunzione giornaliera di un quantitativo di supplementi di vitamina D fra le 80 0 e le 2000 unità internazionali (Iu) riduceva
significativamente i rischi della maggior parte di fratture, incluso bacino e femore sia nelle donne che negli uomini.
In particolare, si riduceva del 30 per cento il rischio di frattura all’anca e del 14 per cento quello di frattura alle altre ossa fra uomini e donne con oltre 65 anni. In più, gli studiosi hanno scoperto l’inefficacia di dosi quotidiane di vitamina D al di sotto delle 800 Iu, nella
prevenzione delle fratture.
