Identificata da scienziati italiani la proteina che protegge dal Parkinson

Scoperta la proteina-sentinella del cervello che difende dal morbo di Parkinson. L’ha individuata nei topi una ricerca guidata dai ricercatori italiani dell’Istituto Nazionale di Neuroscienze (Inn) e pubblicata sulla rivista inglese Brain. La proteina riesce a prevenire l’insorgenza della malattia che colpisce solo in Italia circa 10.000 persone ogni anno e potrebbe diventare il bersaglio di future terapie.
Si chiama c-Rel, e quando non funziona compaiono con l’invecchiamento tutti i principali segni della malattia: ridotta produzione di dopamina cerebrale, difficoltà nel mantenere la postura, rallentamento, rigidità e compromissione della coordinazione motoria. La ricerca ha dimostrato sui topi come il blocco dell’espressione della proteina c-Rel porta alla perdita dei neuroni della cosiddetta sostanza nera all’eta’ di 18 mesi (all’incirca i nostri 60 anni) e la conseguente insorgenza dei sintomi della malattia che migliorano con il trattamento farmacologico a base di L-Dopa.
